Agricultural Waste to Revenue
Water supply and water quality degradation are global concerns that will intensify with increasing water demand, the unexpected impacts of extreme events, and climate change; for this reason, worldwide, marginal-quality water will become an increasingly important component of agricultural water supplies, particularly in water-scarce countries. Therefore, water management is fundamental for safe global food production, as water scarcity is now becoming a prime concern in many regions of the World. Water scarcity is putting stress on agricultural practices because irrigation is the largest beneficiary of freshwater use.
Water Care Services Pakistan and Curium 247 Lab carried out a pilot scale project of generating revenue from waste. The aims and objectives of the project were;
Aims and Objectives of the Project:
The present study aims at the following objectives,
- Treatment of domestic wastewater and use for recreational purposes.
- To utilize the treated water for fish ponds which help to maintain the protein requirement of the surrounding people.
- The fish farming technique will help to improve the socio-economic status of the village.
- The constructed wetlands will help to restore the ecosystem and promote biodiversity in the area, which will produce income for the population.
- The proper management of wastewater will reduce outbreak of diseases, which will reduce the health cost of the population.
- To reduce the pressure on groundwater resources and extraction by reusing the treated water for aquaculture and agriculture.
- It will help to improve sanitation conditions, health and provide safe treated water for villagers.
- Wetlands will promote societal benefits by providing food, improving water quality habitat for fish and wildlife and economically beneficial natural products for humans.
- It will provide the opportunity for locals to improve economic conditions by promoting fish and grains markets.
Curium 247 Lab successfully run this pilot scale project and generated revenue.
